The popular music streaming platform, which already has more than 100,000 podcasts with videos, has already started talks with potential partners about the product, reported Bloomberg on Friday, citing people familiar with the matter who requested anonymity. Spotify already offers a ‘Canvas’ feature, which allows artists to add a short 3-8 second looping visual to their tracks that populates the screen while music plays. The music streaming giant describes Spotify Canvas as “a marriage of sights to sounds, giving artists a way to express themselves visually while simultaneously deepening listeners’ connection to the music.” Earlier this year, the music company also introduced “Clips”, which are short, under-30-second vertical videos that can be uploaded directly to Spotify for Artists. “They’re designed to put you and your music front-and-center, so they can be attached to your artist profile, to a song, to an album, or to an upcoming release,” says Spotify. Spotify declined to comment on the report. Earlier this month, Spotify said it would cut 200 jobs from its podcast unit in its second round of layoffs, including workers at the popular podcast studios Gimlet Media and Parcast. Back then, the company said that the 2 percent cut reduction in the workforce was part of a “strategic realignment” of the podcast division after years of heavy investment.
