According to the company, the Razer Edge 5G, which is developed in partnership with Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. and Verizon, is the “world’s first dedicated 5G gaming device.” “The core concept of every product we put out always boils down to one thing, our ‘For Gamers. By Gamers.’ motto,” said Richard Hashim, Head of Razer’s Mobile & Console Division. “With the Razer Edge, we’ve created the ultimate handheld gaming platform. Together with Verizon and Qualcomm, we designed the Razer Edge 5G to be a true gamer device, capable of supporting gamers’ entire catalogs of AAA games or allowing them to stream endlessly online, taking their gaming experience on the go with near-zero latency.” The Razer Edge 5G features a 6.8-inch AMOLED touchscreen display with a refresh rate of 144Hz and a Full HD+ resolution of 2,400 x 1,080 providing upwards of 87% more pixels than competitors’ devices. It is powered by the Snapdragon G3x Gen 1 gaming platform to deliver superior Android gaming performance. Razer says early benchmark testing shows that the Snapdragon G3x Gen 1 delivers 2-3x speeds of standard mobile platforms such as the Snapdragon 720G. The Snapdragon G3x sports a 3Ghz octa-core Kryo CPU and an Adreno GPU built for maximum graphics and industry-leading performance per watt. Further, the handheld gaming device comes with 8GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 128GB of internal storage as well as a microSD card slot. It will run Android 12 out of the box. It measures 259.7 x 84.5 x 10.83 mm and weighs 263.8 grams without the controllers attached and 400.8 grams with the controller. On the connectivity front, the Razer Edge 5G supports Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.2, Sub 6 and mmWave Verizon 5G. It is powered by a 5000mAh battery to provide long hours of gaming. Additionally, on the audio front, it will feature 2-way speakers with Verizon Adaptive Sound and a pair of digital microphones. There is also a webcam from where you can Livestream your gameplay. Moreover, the Razer Edge 5G comes paired with a removable Razer Kishi V2 Pro controller, which offers all of the same capabilities as the Kishi V2 controller for smartphones. It, however, comes with two additions – Razer HyperSense advanced-haptic feedback and a 3.5mm audio port. The Kishi V2 also features microswitches in the face buttons, analog triggers, and D-pad and programmable macros. Besides the native Android games, the handheld gaming device will come with popular pre-installed launchers like Epic Games. It will also offer support for cloud gaming services like Xbox Cloud Gaming Beta, and NVIDIA GeForce Now, and remote play options offering full access to PC libraries like Steam Link, Moonlight, Parsec, and Xbox. Since it’s an Android tablet, you can install games from the Play Store directly. The Razer Edge will be available in two variants: the Razer Edge 5G and Razer Edge. The gaming device will launch in the U.S. first and will retail at $399.99 for the Wi-Fi-only variant on Razer’s website and RazerStore locations in January 2023. Pricing and availability is not yet revealed for the 5G model, which is a Verizon exclusive. You can pre-order the Wi-Fi edition now and own the ultimate Android gaming handheld by reserving your Razer Edge for a refundable deposit of $5.
